September 25, 2018
PMHS senior Kate Douglass was recently named to the 2018-19 USA Swimming National Junior Team. The National Junior Team is made up of athletes,18 or younger, who are eligible to compete for the U.S. internationally.
Only 67 swimmers made the team this year (35 women; 32 men). The team is pulled from world rankings, with the top 2 swimmers in each Olympic event making the team first and any other swimmers ranked above 75th in the world in an event.
Kate had the fastest 200meter individual medley time of all eligible athletes in 2018. She is ranked 64th in the world in this event. Among the benefits to being on the National Junior Team, members are invited to participate in a two-week training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
In addition to her spot on the National Junior Team, Kate has also been selected to compete for Team USA at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina to be held from Oct 6 – Oct 18. She is part of the maximum 8-swimmer roster that USA Swimming is sending. 2018 will be the 3rd edition of the summer Youth Olympics, an international multi-sport event organized by the International Olympic Committee. The games are held every four years in staggered summer and winter events consistent with the current Olympic Games format.
Kate trains year round at Chelsea Piers Aquatic Club in Stamford, CT.
