Abbie Young

A four-year varsity rower at Yale, Abbie has an extensive background in both coaching and competing in all boat classes. She has traveled all over the world, having raced in South Africa, Germany, England, Canada, and throughout the United States. At Yale, Abbie was a member of the team’s varsity 8+ for three years and the varsity 4+ for one, ending that season with a silver medal at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, California. She represented Yale at both the 2014 Women’s Henley and Henley Royal Regattas, and in her senior year was a CRCA Region I First-Team selection, a CRCA Scholar-Athlete, and the team’s recipient of the Eugenia C. Kiesling Award, given for having the dedication, perseverance, and consistency of effort necessary to maintain a high level of competitiveness and cooperation.

Prior to college, Abbie rowed for four years in her hometown in Massachusetts, and then attended and rowed for Phillips Exeter Academy her junior and senior years of high school. She was a member of the 2011 Junior National Team and stroked the Women’s 8+ at the Junior World Championships in Eton Dorney, Great Britain.

Abbie is currently the Competitive Teams Director at Chelsea Piers and also teaches the Rowing Series. She’s excited to break into the cycling world with Breakaway!
