3 Tips to Stand Out At Volleyball Tryouts
October 10, 2022
Chelsea Piers Volleyball Club, in Stamford, CT is home to the premier volleyball program in Farifield County. With tryout season just around the corner, we asked our Volleyball Director, Jamie Calandro for a few ways to make sure you are seen by coaches this season!
1. Be the hardest working athlete in the gym.
Always control the controllable. Hard work, energy, and effort are all things that you can control. Hustle everywhere, all of the time. Sprint to water breaks, team huddles, and have energy and enthusiasm from the moment you step into the gym until the moment you leave. Coaches notice this and appreciate it. .
2. Be a good teammate.
Volleyball is a team sport; all it takes is one person to bring down a team dynamic. Be supportive and encouraging to your teammates, whether it is your first time playing together or one hundredth. A positive team dynamic translates to efficient communication and connectivity on the court.
3. Be coachable.
Make eye contact with coaches when they are giving instruction and feedback. Show them that you are actively listening and trying to work on what they are instructing you to do so. Do not make the same mistake multiple times in a row! Be open-minded and willing to work on new things.
