Benefit of Sports - Golf

The benefits of sports and exercise on mental and physical well-being are clear. On the cusp of a new school year, we wanted to understand more about how sports can teach kids life lessons and skills including accountability, hard work, dedication, leadership, and more. So we spoke with one of our Junior Elite golfers, Noah and his parents Amy and Seth for their perspective on how golf has positively impacted Noah’s life in a positive way.

Parent's View:

As a parent, how have you seen golf positively impact Noah’s life both on and off the course?

Noah started golf at Chelsea Piers about five years ago when he was seven years old. Today, he’s 12, and not only has his love for golf grown immensely, but Noah has learned so much about himself along the way. We think that one of the biggest lessons golf has taught Noah is working to accomplish a goal. Golf teaches motivation, focus, and discipline to achieve your goals and through the help of golf, he has learned that diligence and dedication can help you achieve anything you set your mind to.

Not only has golf helped Noah learn to achieve his goals, but it has helped him become a very sociable person that is able to communicate with people of all ages. We have seen Noah meet other children that have similar interests. He can play with other kids, as well as adults. Golf continues to teach him patience, resilience, and perseverance. We believe that non-academic interests like golf or any other sport or art are just as important as school because they provide an outlet for kids to grow outside of the classroom. We are grateful that Noah has found a passion for golf and continues to learn, grow and make lifelong memories and friends along the way that he can cherish forever.

Noah's View:

How did you get started golfing?

My biggest inspiration is my Grandpa because he is the one who got me into golf almost five years ago. I golf with him every summer and those are some of my favorite days. He’s has been playing since he was a teenager and had the same foursome for 30 years!

I started when I was seven in Chelsea Piers Golf Summer Camp and then I loved it so much that I asked my parents to sign me up in the After School program at the Golf Club. After a few semesters in After School, I graduated to the Junior Elites program that I am in now.

It’s so cool that you get to golf with your grandpa and at Chelsea Piers. What would you say you love the most about golf and why?

I love golf because it’s relaxing and good for your body. No matter what is going on, golf provides me with an outlet to just re-direct my thoughts onto what I am doing on the range or on the course. I also love golf because I get to meet a lot of fun kids my age that have the same interests as I do. I’ve made so many good friends and we all have a great time every time we play or are at practice together. It’s an awesome social sport and one that allows me to make so many friends along the way.

Thank you to Amy, Seth and Noah for sharing the life lessons and skills Noah has learned from golf that he will carry with him through many aspects of life.
