CHELSEA PIERS CONNECTICUT GIRLS LEADERSHIP CAMP RETURNS FOR A FOURTH YEAR

August 12, 2016

CAMP WILL RUN FROM AUGUST 15TH THROUGH AUGUST 19TH

(Stamford, CT – August 12, 2016) – Chelsea Piers Connecticut is proud to announce an expanded program for the fourth year of the Chelsea Piers Girls Leadership Camp summer program. This innovative week-long camp provides female high school athletes with a unique opportunity to develop their individual athletic skills, while also arming them with the tools they need to become strong leaders in all areas of their lives.

Athletes in hockey, soccer or volleyball participate in daily high-level sport training, as well as strength and conditioning programs both on and off the playing surface.  In addition to learning from top-level coaches, athletes learn the meaning of leadership and how it relates to their athletic performance.

Through team building activities and guest speakers, camp participants engage with the six tenants of leadership — wisdom, courage, vision, passion, generosity and trust. Activities are both mentally and physically challenging and are aimed at teaching athletes cross-functional teamwork and collaboration, leadership without authority techniques, positive communication, assertive decision-making and more.

The 2016 camp features a diverse group of facilitators. Amy Gross, Yale 2006 Graduate, Sports Psychologist and former National Champion Squash player, Ray Diffley, former professional hockey player, former Director of Admissions for the Choate School, and current Director of AISAP’s Center for Admission and Enrollment Management Leadership, Illaria St. Florian, Stamford Hospital’s Youth Nutritionist, and Megan Grassell CEO of The YellowBerry Company will each be tasked with guiding the athletes through different aspects of leadership and self-development.

Athletes also attend health and nutrition training seminars for peak performance and a seminar on the ins and outs of college and prep school recruiting.

The camp is sponsored by the Fairfield County’s Community Fund Fund for Women and Girls, Under Armour and snacks are sponsored by KINDbar.

"We are extremely proud of the progress the Chelsea Piers Connecticut Girls Leadership Camp has made over the last four years. Our camp provides young girls with the rare opportunity to develop into leaders both on and off the playing field,” commented Greta Wagner, Executive Director, Chelsea Piers Connecticut.
