CHELSEA PIERS CONNECTICUT ANNOUCES DEAL WITH THE CONNECTICUT NANOOKS

March 16, 2015

Tryouts will be held March 18th and 19th

(Stamford, CT – March 16, 2015) – Chelsea Piers Connecticut is pleased to announce the establishment of a partnership with the Connecticut Nanooks AA Youth Hockey Club. The Rinks at Chelsea Piers Connecticut will serve as the new home and training center for the spring travel hockey program, running from the end of March through June.

The rapidly growing CT Nanooks program targets the athlete looking to play hockey while still maintaining the flexibility to participate in local spring sports. The seasoned coaching staff is led by Coach Bud Brown, who most recently functioned as the hockey director at the Ridgefield Amateur Hockey Association (RAHA).

The CT Nanooks program recently announced the addition of Quinnipiac Head Coach Rand Pecknold in an advisory role. Coach Pecknold is a fixture in the Connecticut Hockey scene, recording 14 consecutive winning seasons, including a trip to the 2013 Frozen Four National Championship. Pecknold is the sixth-winningest coach among all active NCAA Division 1 coaches.  Pecknold will help guide Nanooks coaches in offering a systematic, fast-paced practice structure and curriculum.

Tryouts will take place March 18th and 19th and are open to all players, regardless of their winter program affiliation. The 10-week program consists of two local tournaments, including one at Chelsea Piers Connecticut and one travel tournament to Massachusetts. “We are delighted to add a quality youth hockey program like the CT Nanooks to The Rinks at Chelsea Piers. What I find unique and interesting about the program is the CT Nanooks philosophy of encouraging their athletes to play other spring sports to sharpen their athletic skills,” said Ryan Equale, Assistant Executive Director.  “The partnership will help further Chelsea Piers Connecticut’s ability to offer a healthy family sports atmosphere while continuing to remain competitive.”
