CHELSEA PIERS DANCE ACADEMY TO OFFER SIX NEW CLASSES

(Stamford, CT – January 12, 2016) – The Chelsea Piers Dance Academy has announced that it is launching six a new youth and adult ballet classes for the 2016 Winter/Spring semester.
The Dance Academy, managed by professional dancer and Sarah Lawrence College graduate Rebecca Moore, opened in January 2015. Its extensive offerings cater to dancers of all ages and ability levels, in the16,000 square foot facility with three studios, a piano, wood sprung floors and Marley covering.
The new programs, led by a variety of accomplished instructors, range from parent and caregiver participation classes to advanced ballet choreography. Inclusion of the latest programs brings the Dance Academy’s weekly offerings to 41 total classes.
“We know that there is great diversity in dance and we’re excited to offer a new mix of classes so that there is something for everyone,” says Dance Academy Manager Rebecca Moore.
Dance With Me (2-3 years)
Move together with your tiny dancer as participants explore music, rhythm, balance, and the foundations of dance. All Moms, Dads, caregivers, and other loved ones are welcome.
Bollywood/Bharatanatyam (7-10 years)
An introduction to dances of India, participants will master leg movements and hand gestures in classical Indian dance form as well as learn fun dances to popular music from Bollywood.
Musical Theatre (10+ years)
This class focuses on developing comprehensive musical theatre skills including theatre dance, partnering, acting, and chorus singing. This class aims to build confidence and stage presence in young dancers and helps prepare participants for school or community theatre productions.
Pointe I (10-13 years)
This beginning pointe class requires teacher recommendation for registration. Students must have three years of ballet training and exhibit appropriate levels of leg and foot strength, balance and alignment.
Ballet Choreography (9-13 years)
Learn ballet dances in preparation for special performance opportunities. Students gain valuable performance experience and learn how to engage in the choreographic process.
Dance for Figure Skaters (7-10 years)
Specifically designed for figure skaters, this class builds a strong foundation in ballet, developing graceful body lines while focusing on strength, flexibility, alignment and artistic expression.
