Golf Club Technology

March 10, 2016

Did you know there's more science and technology in golf than in any other sport? The Golf Academy has the latest innovations in golf teaching technology including JC Video Analysis, K-Vest System, FlightScope Ball Launch Monitor and TPI Fitness Screening. Learn more about how each can help your game here.

JC Video Analysis
JC Video is used by PGA Tour Professionals and top teaching Academies around the world. The software boasts cutting edge video analysis features, more pro swings and faster playback. With a shutter speed of up to 2,000 and a capture rate of more than 60 frames per second, these top-of-the-line cameras enable teaching professionals to break down student swings with extremely high quality videos and incredibly clear pictures. These videos are uploaded to the internet so students can access all of their lessons digitally.

The K-Vest System
With three wireless sensors that strap to the student's back, waist and wrist, K-Vest uses motion software to capture all of the elements of the golfer's swing, from set-up, to impact and follow through. Detailed information is then communicated to the instructor's laptop for review.

K-Vest studies six elements of the swing, measuring them in varying degrees of rotation, tilt and bend. These six elements are alignment at address, posture at address, hip and shoulder turn at top, hip position at top, hip movement during swing and spine movement during swing.

Once the software has captured the quantitative results from the golf swing, it compares the details of the swing to an ideal range. Personal results that lie within the ideal range are highlighted in green. Those that lie outside the range and need improvement appear in red. Each time a student prepares to swing, a chirping tone indicates that they have achieved the correct level of rotation, tilt or bend, in their backswing.

FlightScope Ball Launch Monitor
The FlightScope ball launch monitor is the first ever 3D Doppler Tracking Golf Radar. This portable device is used for golf instruction, swing analysis and club fitting.

Students simply hit the ball. While the ball is in the air, Doppler tracking radar follows it with incredible accuracy. Within seconds, a digital image of the shot is re-created on a laptop screen. Vertical and horizontal launch angles, velocity, spin, "smash factor," ball speed and club head speed are among the many aspects measured by FlightScope.

TPI Fitness Screening
The Golf Academy offers private TPI Fitness Screening sessions, giving golfers the opportunity to experience the same physical assessment and fitness training as the pros.

The assessment identifies physical imbalances in order to establish a Golf Fitness Handicap (GFH). The GFH is equivalent to a golf handicap in terms of physical capabilities. A fitness program is then designed to correct those imbalances and improve stability, mobility, flexibility, balance, posture, strength and power. Improved physical fitness levels increase endurance and injury prevention, improving performance.

TPI Fitness Screening Includes: Physical assessment, video analysis, TPI-generated workout program, and access to TPI literature and video exercises (viewable from iPhone or other compatible mobile device).
