How Massage Therapy Improves Training Results

A massage can be a great way to treat yourself to some relaxing “you” time, but did you know massage is also an excellent recovery tool that can help you reach your strength training goals more quickly? Learn more about why massage should be a part of your training plan below.

After a particularly tough workout, lactic acid builds up in muscles, leading to that sore, achy feeling we’re all familiar with. A post-workout massage can help break down lactic acid, which makes for quicker recovery time after your workout. When your muscles recover more quickly, you’re able to get back to your next workout sooner. This is also why it’s important to allow proper time to stretch and cool down after an intense workout.

A good massage increases blood circulation, which allows organs to function efficiently and speeds up your body’s healing process. When blood flow is increased to a particular muscle, fresh healing cells are sent to the area to help sore muscles heal faster.

Another good reason to get a massage between workouts is to increase flexibility. The more flexible and loose your muscles are, the more you’ll be able to achieve in your training. Flexible muscles are also much less likely to suffer from strain or injury. Yoga and Pilates are other great ways to improve flexibility for strength training between workouts.
