CHELSEA PIERS ANNOUNCES EVOLVE MIND-BODY PROGRAM
March 12, 2018
EVOLVE YOGA, PILATES AND BARRE TO LAUNCH AT ALL CHELSEA PIERS LOCATIONS
(March 7, 2018) – Chelsea Piers is proud to announce the addition of Evolve, a new program that encompasses the mind-body disciplines of yoga, Pilates and barre at the three Chelsea Piers locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Stamford, Connecticut. Under the Evolve umbrella, Chelsea Piers will elevate and energize its class offerings, ensure high-level teacher training and commit to supporting each member’s practice with a wide range of classes, retreats and special programs.
As part of the program’s launch, a new hot yoga studio recently opened at Chelsea Piers Fitness in Manhattan, where a private Pilates Reformer studio, a yoga studio with river views and a dedicated barre studio combine to provide members with boutique-quality classes within a full-service club setting. Evolve is also offered at the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club in Stamford, Connecticut and Chelsea Piers Fitness in Downtown Brooklyn, which will open in late spring 2018.
Evolve offers more than just classes: it brings an integrative approach to the mind-body disciplines and everyday life. As part of its comprehensive offerings, Chelsea Piers Fitness will host outdoor yoga classes throughout the summer in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park and sunrise yoga classes on its Hudson River sundecks. The Evolve program also features yoga retreats, workshops and travel opportunities, commencing with a hiking and yoga excursion to the Grand Canyon in October 2018.
Kathy Salvo will lead the Evolve program. Kathy has been immersed in yoga and restorative yoga since 1987, in the process earning the highest-level of yoga certification. She launched her career at the National Institutes of Health, where she experienced yoga’s mental and physical benefits first-hand. During the ensuing decades, she has completed more than 2,000 hours of training in a variety of restorative disciplines and has led over 8,000 hours of classes and private instruction. Kathy is also the Group Fitness Director at the Chelsea Piers Athletic Club in Stamford, where she developed and runs group fitness, including its award-winning yoga, Pilates and barre programs.
“The Evolve program was designed to highlight the importance of breath in each person’s practice. We believe the quality of your breath - full, rich and deep – directly impacts the quality of your life. Through our yoga, Pilates and barre classes, each member will evolve to achieve an enriched practice and be empowered to carry that mindset out of the studio and into their lives,” commented Salvo.
Evolve Yoga
The Evolve Yoga team features more than 25 yoga instructors who collectively bring more than 100,000 hours of training and teaching to Chelsea Piers. The program encompasses many traditions and styles of yoga, including Iyengar, Restorative, Hatha, Vinyasa and Hot Vinyasa yoga practices. Evolve Yoga’s core mission centers around the Vinyasa practice, working on the flow of both the body and the breath.
Starting June 2018, complimentary outdoor Evolve park yoga classes will be offered at Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park to introduce the local community to yoga in a beautiful public space.
Evolve Pilates
Evolve Pilates incorporates both mat and studio apparatus work. The program is designed for all levels, with a strong focus on correct alignment, posture, core strength, flexibility and proper execution of both classical and modern exercises. More than a dozen instructors make up the Evolve Pilates team.
Evolve Barre
Evolve Barre is a ballet-inspired workout in custom designed studios. The workout blends full-body sculpting, core work and cardio with a focus on proper alignment. The program features more than a dozen inspiring instructors with backgrounds including dance, ballet and traditional fitness training. Evolve Barre offers a variety of classes, each designed for a specific goal: Prime Barre, Core Barre, Barre Assets, Sweat Barre, Tabata Barre and Total Barre.
