As he finishes his Senior year at Poly and has his sights set on attending the University of Chicago in September, we spoke with Philip on his favorite memories, accomplishments and advice throughout the years so far.
Q: What did you enjoy most about playing with Chelsea Piers Evolution?
My Chelsea Piers Evolution coaches taught me HOW to play. I have played with talented players who lack the necessary fundamentals of the game. Evolution gives you an advantage in learning the basic principles of the game like defense, proper footwork, shooting form, etc.
Q: What do you love most about the game?
I love that basketball has helped me make friends and become confident both on and off the court.
Q: What is your greatest accomplishment on the court?
Winning three consecutive state championships!
Q: What is a motto or quote you live and/or play by?
The motto that I play by is “play at your own pace”.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve received?
Best advice would be to not take the opportunity to play for granted. Use your coaches to get better and push your teammates to get better. Have fun with it – becoming a better player is fun and your team gets better, it puts you in better positions to win (which is the most fun)!
Congratulations to Phillip on all that he has accomplished. We can't wait to see him thrive on and off the court in Chicago!
