Sports Center At Chelsea Piers Fitness Director Runs 50 Miles To Raise Money And Awareness For Charity
April 27, 2017
(New York, NY – April 27, 2017) – The Sports Center hosted a fundraiser, 50 Epic Miles, this past weekend to get children sponsored and raise money for clean water initiatives in Africa and other developing countries with Team World Vision.
Fitness Director Josh Fly ran 50 miles on a treadmill set up in the health club Café to encourage members and guests to pledge money per mile and run on a treadmill beside him or sponsor a child.
After 8 hours and 40 minutes of running Josh had traveled 50 miles and inspired people to sponsor 35 children and also raised an additional $7,000.
“We are thrilled that Josh accomplished his goal,” commented Jared Deptula, General Manager of the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers. “Josh has amazing talent and this was a creative and inspiring way to use that talent for a greater good. Chelsea Piers loves to promote healthy lifestyles and of course our employees passions. This was a wonderful way to do both.”
“The opportunity to use our talents to do good for others is one of the big motivators and anchors of my life. It was awesome to see our staff, members, and guests use our platform of health and fitness to bring money, sponsorships, and awareness to such a heart-breaking and worthy cause,” commented Josh Fly, Fitness Director at the Sports Center at Chelsea Piers. “It is our goal to transform people’s lives through fitness. A key quote that Team World Vision often repeats is this African proverb: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. As we witnessed this past weekend, we can do far more as a community of people than I could have ever done on my own. I’m so lucky and fortunate to work for such an amazing organization and with such incredible people. Together we knew that we could inspire a day of greatness to change the lives of children in need.”
Josh is headed back to South Africa on June 4th to run Comrades for the 2nd time - a 54-mile marathon through the valley of a thousand hills. He will then travel to Ethiopia to meet children and families who benefit directly from fundraisers like 50 Epic Miles.
