SWIMMERS GOING TO NATIONALS
July 15, 2018
The CPAC Swim Team has dominated their season, including winning sectionals for both the men’s and women’s team in March by over 600 points. Summer doesn’t mean a break for the team, who are continuing to practice and compete.
Last Sunday, two of our top female swimmers, Kate Douglass and Kaki Christensen, competed at the Columbus Pro Series event in Columbus, Ohio. Both Kate and Kaki made it to the finals in their respective events, competing against 2017 World Championships 4x Gold Medalist Lilly King and other top swimmers.
We are proud to announce that both Kate and Kaki did amazing!
Kate Douglas (shown above) took third in the Women’s 200 IM A Final. Swimming in lane 1 she held off 4th through 8th place finishers with strong times in the back and breast laps. Kate’s time ranks her as the 10th fastest American in that event this year, and the fastest under 18 year old swimmer this year.
Kaki Christensen (shown above) had a strong race in the Women’s 200 Breaststroke A Final, swimming in lane 2. Her prelim time ranks her as the #6 fastest under 18 year old swimmer and #27 overall in the event this year.
Head Coach Jamie Barone, couldn’t be happier. “Kaki and Kate did a fantastic job racing against some of the premier athletes in the world. The times posted were fantastic and bode well for what can happen at National Championships in two weeks.”
Next up for the swimmers is Nationals in Irvine, CA on July 25 where Douglass and Christensen will be competing against National Team Swimmers Lilly King, Simone Manuel, Katie Ledecky and the best of the best swimmers in the country.
Knowing how hard they have been training, We like their odds.
