Greenwich High School placed second in its 43rd annual Cardinal Water Polo Tournament held on Friday and Saturday.

The Cardinals were edged by Chelsea Piers Connecticut in the championship match, 5-4. The matchup featured Cardinals coach Jimmy Ramaley going up against his older brother, Paul, who coached Chelsea Piers.

Brian O’Leary recorded a hat trick to lead the Cardinals in the title game. J.T. Ruiz added one goal for Greenwich.

“This marked the first time since 2001 that Greenwich didn’t win the tournament, but we still played really well against a very good team,” Jimmy Ramaley said. “We have a lot of depth and if we had played another quarter, I think we would have won. But it was a great game.”

Jack Lewis led Chelsea Piers to victory with three goals. Greenwich went 2-1 in the tournament, defeating Gonzaga High School earlier on Saturday.

Brunswick School placed third in the tournament, defeating Phillips Exeter Academy in the third-place game, 16-4. They also beat Greenwich High’s B team, 14-4. Their defeat came against Chelsea Piers, which pulled out an 11-9 double overtime win against the Bruins. Lewis had the winning goals in overtime.”
